Course Content
The Bachelor of Applied Arts aims to create people-centered who are well-informed in their chosen specialisation: Film Production or Digital Media Production. Graduates will appeal to employers that require flexible problem solvers who can lead, manage and collaborate to create sustainable, financially viable and profitable outcomes, whilst considering the wider community and social needs. By integrating personal development (using humanities subjects), learners will be equipped with emotional intelligence that improves the application of vocational skills within their profession.
Learning Outcome
Graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Arts will be able to:
* Create works that exhibit intellectual independence, critical thinking and analytic rigour in the area of humanities applied in theoretical and vocational contexts.
* Create self-directed works in chosen areas of humanities and within their chosen specialisation.
* Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to the ideas, principles, concepts, chief investigation/research methods and problem-solving techniques for humanities applied in their chosen specialisation.
* Formulate arguments and positions that demonstrate the abilities to acquire, understand, and assess information from a range of academic and non-academic sources.
* Produce solutions to complex problems that exhibit effective communication and collaborative skills while considering a variety of stakeholder needs, including Maori and wider community needs.
* Present authentic and persuasive arguments based on core-values and beliefs grounded in ideas, principles, concepts, chief research methods and problem-solving techniques of humanities applied within a vocational context.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Arts (Film Production) will also be able to:
* Initiate, manage and implement a film production project from ideation through to delivery, informed by well-found humanities theories and developed using film production best practices.
* Critically reflect on their own understanding of film production undertakings supported by theory and best practices.
* Evaluate a collection of research/investigatory approaches associated with motion picture as a scholarly undertaking from applied arts and film production perspectives.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Arts (Digital Media Production) will also be able to:
* Initiate, manage and implement a digital media production project from ideation through to delivery, informed by well-found humanities theories and developed using industry best practices and optimised production pipelines.
* Critically reflect on their own understanding of digital media production undertakings supported by theory and best practices.
* Evaluate a collection of research/investigatory approaches associated with digital media production as a scholarly undertaking from applied arts and digital media production perspectives.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Arts may qualify for postgraduate study including Master of Fine Arts, Master of Design, Master of Arts, and Master of Creative Technologies.
Employment Opportunities
For graduates of the Digital Media specialisation are in the digital media industry or in related businesses with digital media requirements. Graduates will have the artistic and technical skills to enter the industry at entry level but will be equipped to move quickly into supervisory, leadership/management roles.
For graduates of the Film Production specialisation exist in the digital media industry, film industry, and TV industry or in businesses that require video content as part of their communication strategies. Graduates will have highly tuned cinematic and visual storytelling skills to create compelling visual messages. Graduates will be equipped to move into supervisory/leadership roles.
